Health and Wellbeing

We had a visit from Child Smile. We were concentrating on all the different parts that we have to brush and we know that we have to brush our teeth for 2 minutes. We brush our teeth every day to make sure we have lovely smiles.

We should brush our teeth morning and night because it makes our teeth really shiny! Courtney.

We have been learning about living and non-living things in Science. We know that we need sunlight, water, food and air to live. We worked in partners to sort living and non-living things.

We have been learning all about our laptops. We know the functions of most of the keys on the keyboard and we are working to improve our typing skills.

Literacy

We are continuing to learn common words and sounds daily. We are continuing to use our word attack strategies when faced with an unknown word. We have been looking at language used in advertising to persuade customers to buy products. We created posters for chocolate bars which we designed as part of our Charlie and the Chocolate Factory topic and carefully considered the language used. We were able to put all of    this into practice during our Enterprise topic for the Christmas Fayre.

Maths

We have been continuing to learn a variety of addition strategies as well as a variety of ways of recording our working. We are continuing to take part in number talks to help us improve our mental maths skills. We have worked hard on symmetry and are able to recognise symmetry in our environment.

Health and Wellbeing

We have been working as a team as part of our Enterprise topic for the School Fayre. We each put forward our ideas for our company name, logo and slogan. We then voted on our favourite for each. We enjoyed working as a team to create our ‘Chocolate Delights’. We were very proud of the results. We loved the Jack and the Beanstalk pantomime at Motherwell Civic. We were very proud when our classmate Ellie was chosen to go up on stage and join in. We had a fabulous time at our Christmas party. We were learning Scottish Country Dancing and can now dance The Gay Gordons and The Canadian Barn Dance.  Room 7 would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Literacy

We have loved learning about our favourite authors and it was interesting to hear about our friend’s favourite parts of the books.  We now have lots of books that we are looking forward to reading! We have continued to use our imaginations in storywriting and we were able to make up stories as part of YDance as well as recount The Three Billy Goats Gruff and put this story into a dance. We really enjoyed performing in front of an audience!  We continue to improve our spelling skills every week and work on becoming more fluent in reading.

Health and Wellbeing

We have continued to improve our fitness skills in Physical Education. We have been trying to improve our ball skills through playing lots of Ball Games.  The class made a board to display for the Respect Me Day. Every week we discuss our feelings and the effects of bullying during Talk Talk time. We know that bullying is wrong and we know who to speak to if we are being bullied or if we witness bullying. We have finished our topic on James and the Giant Peach and we made our very own papier mache peaches! We look forward to starting our new topic on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Maths

We have been learning about Symmetry. We have had lots of practice identifying and drawing the line of symmetry. We know that a symmetrical shape must be the same on both sides and we are able to use colour in symmetry. We made our very own symmetrical flags and robots which we are very proud of!

Health and Wellbeing

We loved Health Week! We particularly enjoyed getting to wear the Sumo Suits – they were really funny. We liked working in teams during Handball and improved our skills in passing and catching the ball, lots of us even managed to score a goal! We had fun riding the BMX bikes. Some of us were on the BMX bikes and we were able to stand up when riding them. At the beginning we felt a bit nervous but by the end we were going really fast. Some of us were on the balance bikes and this helped us improve our balance skills and by the end we felt much more comfortable on the bikes. We tried to eat especially healthy during this week.

Maths

We are continuing to use Number Talks to help improve our mental maths skills. We will be moving on to using the ‘Chunks’ strategy in addition during our Number Talks time. We look forward to showing everyone at home how we do this. We will be focusing on improving our problem solving skills in maths and will be working both individually and as part of teams to do this. We will be using a variety of different strategies to help improve our addition and subtraction skills.

Literacy

We are continuing to learn new common words every week. We like to use these words to make sentences and they help us improve our fluency in reading. We continue to use magnetic boards on a daily basis and we are really improving when blending our phoneme and sounds together to make a word. We love to read and this month we will be learning about each other’s favourite authors  and recommending books to each other to read in our spare time. In taught writing we will be using our imaginations in narrative writing and will be recounting what happened in known stories.
