Starting Primary


In January each year on a date intimated by the Learning & Leisure Department, all children residing within the catchment area of the school must register if they will be five years of age on or before the end of February of the ensuing year.

Information regarding enrolment of P1 pupils is advertised in the local press and notices displayed in local shops. Anyone wishing information should contact the school and arrange an appointment with the Head Teacher.

Starting school is a very important time for you, your child and the school. We all need to work together to make the transition smooth and rewarding. In the term prior to their entry, pupils will be invited into school for a visit. This will help them become more familiar with the surroundings and routines of the school. During this period, there will be a programme for parents/carers to discuss our partnership with you and talk about your child’s early days at school.

The Early years Curriculum is grounded in active learning. Through practical activities, purposeful play and talk, pupils develop an understanding of the world and the basic concept they will need for their later learning. Parents/carers can play a major role in fostering good attitudes to learning, developing good language skills and promoting good behaviour.

In school we follow the Curriculum for Excellence. We aim to develop children’s personal, social and emotional well-being; promote positive attitudes and dispositions towards their learning: provide opportunities to develop social skills as well as developing language and communication, reading and writing, maths, knowledge and understanding of the world and physical and creative development.


In order that children might transfer from another school into Auchinloch Primary with as little disruption as possible, every effort is made to liaise with other schools to provide relevant information about a child’s educational development.
