Rights Respecting School Day – Friday 14th February

The rights respecting school pupil and teacher group have been working hard promoting RRS article awareness over the past few months.

In support of the group Airdrie Academy will be holding a Rights Respecting School day on Friday 14th February. On this day you are invited to take part in a dress down day – free of charge! We ask – if possible – that students try to wear an item of blue clothing to show their support to the group.

We also invite all pupils and staff to take part in our RRS pledge, also on the 14th Feb. This will be in the assembly hall at interval and lunch time. Students will be asked to choose an article or right which is important to them and write about where they experience this in their school.

We look forward to reading your pledges and seeing everyone wearing blue!!

Article of the Month – October

The Rights Respecting School (RRS) pupil group have worked tirelessly over the month of October to raise awareness around the school. The article of the month for October was Article 27, adequate standard of living. In order to highlight how this is visible in our school the group decided to interview Ms Carlin to show the article in action within Airdrie Academy. The students were keen to learn and inform others about things already being done in the school, particularly the food bank and uniform bank. The RRS teacher working group is extremely proud of all the work and initiative being shown by the pupil group. Look out for our next teacher interview for Novemebers Article of the month from Mr Ferguson.

Rights Respecting School – Progress

Rights Respecting School Group

Airdie Academy received the UNICEF Rights Respecting School Bronze Award in 2018. As we are continually committed to making progress at Airdrie Academy we are striving towards achieving the Silver Award this academic year.

The staff working group have been working closely with our newly formed pupil group in order to raise awareness about RRS. The group, so far, have recruited new members from S1-6 at assembly, displayed relevant articles around the school and designed an information leaflet for other pupils in the school. If you are interesting in helping take the RRS ideas forward please join the group Thursdays at lunchtime in Modern Studies.
