The Scottish Schools (Parental Involvement) Act 2006 gives parents the right to receive information about their children’s education and to be represented and have their views expressed through the Parent Council. There are many ways of gaining the views of parents and finding out what is important to them.

The aims and objectives of Airdrie Academy’s Parent Council are to:
• Promote partnership between the school, its pupils and the parents.

• Support the school, ensuring there are sufficient resources to provide for the education of the pupils.

• Identify and represent the views of the parents on the education provided by the school, and all other matters which affect both education and welfare of the pupils.

• Provide a focus for parental involvement on issues which affect the school.

• Work in partnership with the school to create on environment in the school that is welcoming and this is inclusive for parents too.

• Develop and engage in activities which support the education and welfare of the pupils.

The Parent Council includes a Fund-Raising Committee made up of both parents and teachers. Help is always appreciated, and funds all go towards the benefit of the children.
