Chaplaincy Team

School chaplains in Airdrie Academy are appointed at the discretion of the headteacher to serve the school community. To be effective in our role, we believe we need to be embedded in the life of the school, getting to know the staff and pupils. In doing so, this enables us to deliver Religious Observance and contribute to Religious and Moral Education in a more relevant way.

We seek to serve you whether or not you have a faith, and do so as Christians to show the love and grace of God in action.

In order to provide a key resource to Airdrie Academy, chaplains will:

• Endeavour to provide for the care and welfare of staff and pupils by praying for the school and for situations which exist within it, as well as supporting the school community particularly in times of crisis.
• Assist staff and pupils by being available for anyone who wishes to speak to us in confidence.
• Participate in school events when appropriate.
• Implement ways by which we can build up relationships with those who are part of the school community and further strengthen the school’s links with the wider community.
• Contribute to the Religious, Moral and Philosophical Education department as requested, with the aim of enhancing the pupils’ educational experience.
• Plan and deliver Religious Observance events which are engaging and in keeping with guidelines for a Curriculum for Excellence.
• Provide opportunities for pupils within the informal curriculum such as Scripture Union groups, community action and informal worship.
• Meet regularly with the Chaplaincy Team Leader to consider how best to support the staff and pupils in the delivery of the curriculum in the widest sense.

The chaplaincy team in is led by Mr I Fannon (Head Teacher) and consists of members who are all associated with churches and schools in Airdrie.
