Last Night’s Scholar Homework Session
The link for last night homework session is:
Powerpoints for Tuesday’s revision
I thought I might share with you a powerpoint version of the files that will form the basis of Tuesday’s revision periods. To create these files I used the arrangement’s document. You can use these to create flash cards or just to jot down your thoughts in preparation for Tuesday.
On Tuesday the whole class are going to be given live on-line editing access to the original documents and each person will be given slides to work on. You will also be given another 2 slides to check once you have completed your slide. By the end of the double period we should have a completed and content checked presentation that we can use with the blog and by ourselves.
Pass Computing
Revise computing is gone 🙁 but Pass computing lives!
There are quizes and worksheets as well as revision materials. If you never got round to using the old site I STRONGLY suggest you give this one a shot.
Questionnaire
Right I would like to sample the classes thoughts. So I though I would create this anonymous questionnaire.
Can you please fill it in.
Problem Solving
I spent a chunk of my morning looking at the problem of problem solving. Some people maintain that problem solving is “hard”, others that “It’s up to the individual”. We know that is bunkum and everyone can problem solve, yes it takes time and effort to develop the skills but once they are developed problem solving tasks become easier, not easy, just easier.
Planner
Here is what I plan for the rest of the term.
99 days till the exam
Would you look at that! I have placed a count down timer on the blog. 99 days for 3 units, that’s 33 hours of revision per unit (assuming 1 hour per day). That’s enough time to read all the supplied notes at least once over and complete study notes from them, as well as doing many past papers, you’ll find these in the SQA publications section above.
In all seriousness, as I am sure you gathered from today’s assembly, the time has come to dig out the books and stop taking the extra hours in the part time jobs. You get one shot at 5th year higher exams and you don’t want to be resitting next year.
Make a study plan, there are plenty of tools to help you on the web and even some apps. Once you have the plan, stick to it.
Actual and formal parameters
I had a few questions about this in class today, so I think it’s worth going back over it.
Parameters are used by procedures and functions to pass information in and out. They are used in the definition and in the call of these constructs.
- The parameters used in the procedure/function definition are called the formal parameters.
- The parameters used in the procedure/function call are called the actual parameters.
Software Development Revision
I have a suspicion that these slides are already on here from last year but just in case I thought it was worth posting them again.
