Fitness

We took our PE outdoors this week. We have been working on developing our fitness and stamina.

We began with our warm up, one of our favourites is banana tig! We set up 4 stations around the playground – we had hurdles, zig zag runs, tyre run, and beep runs.

New life in the Nursery

May 18, 2016 by User deactivated | 0 comments

We have been finding out about where living things come from. the children have planted beans and they have grown really quickly. So quickly, we have had to put them in bigger pots. Some of the children have planted sunflower seeds and taken them home to look after.
Last week Jimmy the Egg Man came to visit and brought with him 12 eggs which we put into the incubator to keep warm. Every egg has a number and the children decided to make a chart showing which egg belonged to which child. I wonder whose egg will hatch first! We have to check the incubator every day to make sure it is at the right temperature.
Our caterpillars have finally turned into chrysalis! We are a little behind Mrs Bowden’s class as they have turned into butterflies already.
We thought it would be a good idea to make some signs in case anyone wants to come and visit our wee creatures in the nursery.

We have butterflies!

Pupils (and adults ;-)) in Primary 1/2/3 were excited to come in from playtime to discover that the first two butterflies had hatched!  We managed to catch a little of the hatching on video so that we could share it with you.

Collage butterflies

Primary 1/2/3 have been making lovely collage butterflies, using  several different art techniques.

They created a background by making wave patterns using chalks. Then they created line drawing flowers to add dimension to the backgound. To make their 3D butterflies, they started by painting kitchen roll tubes to be the bodies. The wings were painted in tones of one colour and then added to the bodies with some googly eyes.

The finished colllages are wonderful!

Fortune Cookies

We made fortune cookies today. We had a bit of difficulty folding them into the right shape, but really enjoyed creating “fortunes” to put inside. Fortune cookies are sometimes given in Chinese restaurants as a dessert or after a meal. Did you know fortune cookies didn’t come from China?! They actually came from America!

Wonderful Water

The Health Committee raised a total of £86, from our 3 fundraising events.

This fundraising was to enable us to buy a water bottle for each Castlehill pupil. Drinking water keeps us healthy, helps us concentrate and keeps us hydrated.

The Committee delivered the bottles to each class on Friday morning and the pupils were very excited to receive their new water bottle, especially due to the recent warm weather.

Thank you to everyone who helped us raise this money and thank you for helping keep our school healthy!

Multiplication – 3x table

This morning we worked on our multiplication. We are already great at the 2x, 5x and 10x tables, so this morning we were working on our 3x table. We got 100% in our Education City game, then we counted in 3’s on our 100 square, look at the pattern the stations of the 3x table makes.

China

On Friday, we looked at the geography of China. We used an atlas to identify towns, cities, deserts and rivers and plot them on our map of China.

Our next task was a bit of a challenge. Mrs Black challenged us to use objects from within the classroom to build our own version of the Great Wall of China. We used books and Lego.
