Makaton

We have been enjoying learning to communicate using Makaton. This week we learned signs for parts of the body. We drew a face and used the Makaton we had learned to describe the face and the feelings it showed.

We are also able to spell our name using Makaton.

Teachers teaching Teachers

Teachers at Castlehill Primary have been offering ‘Good Practice’ sessions and sharing ideas and resources with their colleagues.

So far, there have been sessions on Bi-Lateral Training, TEACHH and the photos below are from Mrs Bowden and Mrs Harvey’s Numicon session from Thursday night.

The staff are enjoying this informal way of sharing ideas and are enthusiastic about introducing new resources, or further developing current practices within their classrooms.

Gymnastic Fantastic!

P2/4L had the pleasure of joining Miss McMath and P4/5 during their gymnastics session.  Miss McMath was wonderful and welcomed our class with lots of enthusiasm and demonstrated a vast range of skills and techniques.  The children had a fabulous time interacting with new peers and can’t wait for more new challenges next week as we will now continue to join Miss McMath and her class for PE.

Movie afternoon

P6/7 and P5/6/7 are learning all about the 1970’s. They have been learning about television and movies from the decade and discovered that Star Wars was the no1 movie, released in 1977.  As part of their IDL work the children have enjoyed a movie afternoon. Not only did they get to watch Star Wars but they got to make and then their own popcorn (thanks to Mrs Brownlie and her popcorn maker). They also enjoyed some very appropriately named Star Wars popcorn.

P5/6/7a have been in the kitchen again!

This morning we made tomato pasta. We had been asking Mrs Black to make this dish for a few weeks as it is one of our favourite meals! We gathered all the equipment and ingredients and worked with Mrs Black and Mrs McAteer to boil the pasta. We needed a grown up to help with the cooker and boiling water. We wrote the instructions for this too. This is definitely one our favourite times of the week!

Happy Birthday Mrs Milligan!

As this was the last birthday which Mrs Milligan would celebrate in the  Castlehill building, we all decided to make it an extra special one!

After being handed a glass of  sparkling apple juice, Mrs Milligan  entered the hall across a red carpet , through a guard of honour and was escorted to her special throne by a knight in shining armour…..well, ok, it was Mr McLeod.

Pupils were lined up to present flowers, a book of best wishes from all the classes, a birthday cake, balloons  and other gifts. A special birthday poem was read out by Amy and Sam delighted us all with his rendition of Happy Birthday. It wouldn’t have been a birthday party without some music so the whole school had a wee dance to Happy and the Macarena, to round things off.

Happy Birthday Mrs Milligan, from all of us at Castlehill Nursery and Primary School! We hope you enjoyed your day.
