What local wildlife can we see?

Pupils in Primary 1/2/3 took a walk to the nearby pond yesterday as they are about to start a new IDL topic on the theme of Minibeasts.

Whilst they caught a glimpse of some frogs and frog spawn, it made the children very sad to see that items of furniture and rubbish had been thrown into the water. Mrs Bowden took the opportunity to remind the children that we should all play our part to protect local wildlife and not do anything to harm these creatures.

As it was a dry day, pupils enjoyed some active time in the play park as part of their P.E. session.

Primary 3/4/5L Working Extremely Hard!

Hi Everyone!

Just a little update on all the hard work that’s been happening in our class.

In music we have been learning about instruments that make different types of noises: boom, tap and scrape, shake and ting. A drum makes a ‘boom’ sound. A triangle makes a ‘ting’ sound. A guiro makes a ‘tap and scrape’ sound and a tambourine makes a ‘shake’ sound. We have been having lots of fun and have been making lots of noise!

In language we have been learning about the phonemes ‘ck’ and ‘mb’, which has a silent b – we all shout “DO WE SAY IT? NO WE DON’T”. Geraldine Giraffe helps us!

In maths we have doing lots of work on making 100, we have been playing matching cards, SMART board games and using numicon to support our learning.

In our writing we have been using describing words to help us write character descriptions! We have done one for the Big Bad Wolf, Mr MacLeod, Mrs Stevenson and Jordan! We have also worked as a class to write this blog!

Health Committee Raffle

The Health Committee have been discussing the importance of drinking water every day in school to keep us hydrated. Mrs Black and the Committee are therefore trying to raise enough funds to purchase a brand new water bottle for every child in the school.

This week and next, Health Committee Members will be coming round the classes selling raffle tickets, which will cost 10p. There are two fabulous prizes to be won, a Neon Racer Scooter and an electronic Twister Dance Rave game.

These prizes will keep their winners very active too!

1980s Music

The children were so excited when Mrs Murray very kindly allowed us to borrow and listen to Michael Jackson Thriller on an LP.  We also borrowed Mrs Chisholm’s record player which certainly looked a bit different from our class CD player.  Technology has certainly changed from the 1980s. The children (and adults) had a super time singing and dancing!

¡Hola!

We are hoping to introduce a new language into our curriculum soon. We are already learning French and hope to add Spanish to our week. Some of our Primary 6 and 7’s  have been helping Mrs Black evaluate some digital resources to help support the implementation of this new language.

An afternoon at the movies

The 90’s is our Interdisciplinary Learning Theme. As part of this we have been learning about the movies of the decade. We had a movie afternoon, complete with popcorn, watching the third biggest selling movie of the 90’s………. Jurassic Park.
