All of our caterpillars have now formed their chrysalis so it was time to move them on into the Butterfly Pavillion. This was a rather fiddly job and involved great patience and some nerve-racking moments. Mrs Bowden and Mrs Murray were decidedly nervous!
The lid of the container was very carefully removed and we all held our breaths in case the chrysalis fell from the tissue paper.If the creature felt threatened in any way, it’s defence mechanism kicked in and it started to shake vigorously.. This made us even more nervous that it would fall off the tissue paper!!
This was a great opportunity for us to have a really close up look at the chrysalis. Some areas were shiny and looked as if they had been painted with gold.
Very carefully, all the the chrysalides were taped to the card as shown in the instruction booklet, ready for transfer to the bottom of the pavillion.
