Pink Thursday!

It was the day that Thursday became PINK! S3 Enterprise & Employability worked very hard to collect and assemble an assortment of items to sell for Breast Cancer Research, a charity very close to the hearts and minds of Coltness High School. So far, the pupils’ efforts have raised £250 and we hope to follow this in Coltness with a Staff event for Pink Friday. Here are a few photos of the S3 team in action.

HMIe

As a follow up to the Inspection of February 2014 HMIe are making a continuous engagement visit the week beginning Monday 16th November. As part of this pupils were issued with a letter from HMIe for parents/carers and you should find this in their bags tonight.

Dyslexia Awareness Week – 2nd-9th November 2015

The SfL Department will be driving the “Dyslexia Awareness” week commencing Monday 2nd November. Making Sense of Dyslexia The theme of this year’s Dyslexia Awareness Week is ‘Making Sense of Dyslexia’, be it at home, in the workplace, at school or somewhere else (Dyslexia Scotland)  A pilot group of Coltness pupils have completed a questionnaire looking at how best they can be supported.  They will also be involved in a joint curricular exercise taking place between SfL and Technologies to create a “Dyslexia Friendly” noticeboard with the aim of raising awareness of dyslexia across the school. If you require any further information about dyslexia support please contact any member of staff in the Dept.

Breast Cancer Research Charity Event

This week the Business ICT Department is raising money on Thursday and Friday for Breast Cancer Research.  Mrs Bennie’s Enterprise & Employability class are very busy organising events for both days. So what’s on offer, you ask? Thursday morning interval – for Pupils Pink Lemonade and Cupcakes for pupils in the social area. Treat yourself to a luscious decorated cupcake and refreshing pink lemonade for only £1! For later on, purchase a bag of sweets for yourself or for a loved one. The bags are decorated in pink – what else?! These are also £1. On the evening of Thursday 19th November the Coltness High School PTA are having their annual Christmas Fayre, which will run from 6pm till 9pm. National Poetry Day Competition 2015

The winner of this year’s poetry competition to celebrate National Poetry Day was Abby Green, 2L2 with her poem entitled ‘Who is this Shining Star of Light’. The theme of this year’s competition was ‘Light’. Abby’s poem together with the poems of the two runners-up, Ellie Marley and Jemma Armstrong are displayed in the library. Abby’s poem has also been sent to the Scottish Poetry Library in Edinburgh. Well done Abby!             Written by Mrs Leckie.      

Solar Panels

Over the weekend and coming days solar panels are being installed onto the roof at Coltness High School, which will not only reduce the school’s colossal energy budget but will also see us lower carbon footprint. No jokes about West Central Scotland weather please!!!! Written by Mr McGilp.

Guide Dogs

The Chatelherault Cohort group of Guide Dog volunteer puppy walkers brought guide dog puppies Albert, Questa and Nesta to meet first year pupils’ at Coltness High School on Tuesday 20th October.  The puppy walkers are frequent visitors to the school and the pupils thoroughly enjoy finding out how the puppies begin their Guide Dog career from the age of 6 weeks to about 13 months while they stay with them. The puppy walkers play an important role in the pups’ development and prepare them for their formal training as guide dogs. Rugby Club
