Phew! After a very busy 2nd term with coursework and assessments, all we have to do now is pass exams! Good luck to all our BusinessICT pupils who are sitting their National 5 or Higher exams in Accounting, Business Management, Computing or Admin & IT! Use all the resources that you have been given e.g. textbooks, notes, on-line resources such as Scholar. Remember that you can still contact your teachers during study leave for any help that you may require. Written By Mrs. Bihet
Award Winning Author Cathy MacPhail Visits Coltness High School
Cathy MacPhail, author of 45 children’s and teen fiction books, visited 2nd year pupils’ on Tuesday 3rd May. She gave a really interesting talk on how she began her writing career and how she was inspired to write her first book in 1994 after her daughter was bullied. The book was entitled ‘Run Zan Run’ and Cathy says this book changed her life. The pupils were also given a few hints and tips on how to get an idea for a story. Cathy says “I like writing about real-life themes. I always say that for me the real magic is where the idea comes from.” One of the highlights of the visit was a viewing of the trailer from the film ‘Another Me’,

Scottish Youth Cup Final
Motherwell U20’s beat their Hearts counter parts in the Scottish Youth Cup final at Hampden on Wednesday 27th April, Motherwell’s first Youth Cup final in 29 years. The score on the night was 5-2 to the Steelmen and thoroughly deserved! Former pupil David Turnbull who is still only sixteen had a starting berth in the match and played 70 minutes of the match putting in a very steady and excellent performance. This is a great achievement for anyone let alone someone playing 3 to 4 years above his age bracket, hopefully a sign of great things to come! The game was both live on BBC ALBA and played in front of a crowd of 2,700 spectators.
Easter School
The spring holidays at Coltness High School kicked off with pupils attending Easter School in order to fit in the extra studying just before their exams! This was optional for pupils however the turnout over the course of it running was higher than expected with over 100 pupils attending each day. Staff at the school also volunteered their time in order to provide extra support for the pupils who attended. Feedback from the pupils confirmed what a massive success this was and how beneficial it has been for them. The school are hoping to continue running Easter School each year. Coltness High School wish all pupils going into their exams the best of luck and for those pupils leaving, all the best for
Krista the Guide Dog Visits Coltness High School
Guide Gog Puppy Walkers Ann, Margaret and puppy Krista were presented with a cheque for £320.00 from the 3rd year ASDAN group. They raised the money by selling Crème Egg Easter knitted chicks to pupils and staff at the school. This has become an annual event for the ASDAN group and they have raised just under £1800.00 since 2013. The Guide Dog Puppy Walkers and their pups visit our school on a regular basis and talk to classes about how they socialise the pups to prepare them for their formal training as Guide Dogs. Thanks to everyone who bought Easter Chicks. Written by A.Leckie.
