Some of our first year pupils’ were lucky to be chosen to attend the launch of North Lanarkshire Council’s ‘Read to Succeed’ initiative, supported by NLC’s Secondary Attainment Challenge. Every secondary school in North Lanarkshire have been given an author visit and an injection of new books for each school library. For many years Coltness High School has encouraged reading for pleasure as it’s been shown to be beneficial in academic attainment and also health and wellbeing. Most importantly, reading can be fun and takes you on many adventures and journeys!

Read to Succeed Winner
One of our new 1st Year pupils won the ‘Read to Succeed’ poster competition. Every year in June the school librarian runs a library competition between all the new P7 pupils’ coming to join us here at Coltness High School. The winning entry was outstanding and can be seen in the library with all the other great entries. Mr Swinton, the Partnership Officer will replicate her poster and make a permanent feature of it on one of the library walls. Smaller posters will be put up around the school to encourage pupils’ to ‘Read to Succeed’. This competition also coincides with North Lanarkshire’s ‘Read to Succeed’ initiative that will be launched very soon.
