P7 Open Evening

To start the Transitions work this session, there will be an Open Evening at Coltness HS on Wednesday 14th September from 7pm-8.30pm for the P7 parents and pupils of our associated Primary Schools. There will be a short briefing session in the Assembly Hall before guests will be given a tour of the different departments within the school, to see displays and examples of the excellent work that takes place on a daily basis. We look forward to seeing you there. Mr. Farr

Reduce Speed!

The saying is ‘Twenty’s Plenty’ but we would urge parents to keep their speed to a bare minimum and a lot lower than this as they approach the school on Mossland Drive in particular, Coltness Road and any surrounding streets. Just remember it could be your child crossing the street!!

Gary the Super Dog Wins!

Allison Foubister, 1L2, created a new comic book character called Gary the Super Dog and won the 2016 P7 transition competition. The school librarian sets a competition each year for the P7 transition pupils and this year it was to create a comic book character and also provide a brief description or story to go with it. It was difficult to choose a winner as the entries were of a high standard, however Allison produced a great character and storyline to go with her very detailed drawing. The runner-up was Sophie Anderson, 1S1, with her character Alisa the Merif’wa. All entries can be seen in the library. Well done Allison! Written by Mrs Leckie.

Annual Voter Registration Canvass 2016

The Annual Voter Registration Canvass is underway, and residents in Lanarkshire are asked to ensure that they complete the Household Enquiry Forms (HEF) sent to each household. Residents will need to complete the form issued to them and return it as soon as possible to ensure that they will remain on the electoral register and are able to vote in any future elections. The return of the form will also save on local authority money as the Electoral Registration Officer is required in law to send a canvasser to households who do not return the form. When households receive the form, it is essential residents check that their details are correct, amend these details where necessary and send the form back Households are

Re-coursing Post SQA Results

In the past we have arranged a re-coursing day based around the SQA results coming into pupils’ households. This has allowed pupils to make changes to their options that they picked in March based on the actual outcome of their exams and tying this in with their career aspirations. Given that as an authority we are working more closely with the Motherwell, Wishaw and Shotts consortia schools group we feel that doing this re-coursing before the school restarts is not a viable option from this year onwards. This really needs to be done once other establishments have staff available to discuss potential movement of pupils in columns across schools to make sure we fully facilitate pupils wishes/aspirations. Arrangements will be made the first

Sewing Bee

Morbheinn Hendry, Mandy Tsang and Eve Gardiner took part in the Sewing Bee ‘Make a Dress in a Day’ Challenge at Dumfries House. The pupils were asked to design a dress in response to the brief ‘Engineered Geometric’. The pupils had to make the dress using white linen with accents of black. Pupils were also challenged with incorporating a surprise trimming into their design on the day. The design was judged by the sewing bee judges and the award was presented by HRH Prince Charles and Camilla. Not surprisingly, the girls achieved first place with their outstanding design! It was a fantastic achievement and we are all very proud of our excellent fashionistas! Well done girls! A special thanks to Miss Finlayson and
