On behalf of Basics Food Bank, the S3 Finance class went to Morrisons today – Monday 19th December – to help raise the profile for the charity and some much needed funds. The pupils made an excellent job of bag packing and were very polite and helpful throughout their visit. The Food Bank volunteers were very complimentary towards the pupils who all enjoyed the experience of giving something back to their local community. Coltness High School raised £251.70 on Thursday 8th December by holding a Guide Dog Christmas fundraising stall in the library. The school has been supporting Guide Dogs Scotland for several years and this event has taken our total to a fantastic £2043.40. Thank you to staff who made items and to those who were great sales ladies too. A special ‘thank you’ to Pippa the guide dog puppy and puppy walkers Margaret, Ann and Bobby. Congratulations to the winners of the Book Week Scotland competitions we held last week to celebrate this annual event in Scotland. The girls were the winners of ‘Write a Story in Six Words’ competition and the Book Character Paris Quiz. Well done to both girls and thank you to the pupils and teachers who participated. After a short break the S1 to S4 Barbarians Rugby sessions are back on. S1 to 4 boys and girls are invited to attend rugby training sessions at Dalziel Park, every Wednesday from 4pm to 5.15pm. A free bus will leave the school around 3.45pm and return for 5.30pm. Any new pupils interested in going along please get a consent form from Joanne Cuthbertson, Active Schools Coordinator at lunchtime on Tuesday. All pupils attending please get changed in the PE Department and register with Daniel Bartlett and Reid McLean, Rugby Ambassadors. Training sessions take place outside no matter what the weather so please wear warm clothes!

The Christmas Toy Giveaway will take place on Saturday 26th November 2016 at the Coltness Community Centre, 280 Coltness Road, Wishaw, ML2 7EX. The toy giveaway was well supported last year and approximately 100 children were able to open a present on Christmas morning because of this event.  Many people generously supplied toys, games, books and even children’s clothes. So with your support we hope to give more children a Merry Christmas. In anticipation of helping more children we will need to gather more toys, games and books. Any donations can be handed into the school office and will be collected by Friday 25th November. Please spread the word and help us spread some Christmas cheer in 2016!
