Fifty Word Story Competition Winner
Congratulations to Kirsty from 1A2 on winning the fifty word scary Halloween story competition. It was a difficult decision to pick the winning entry as the standard of the competition was excellent. The second prize winner was Reece from 1S2 and third prize winner was Zoe from 1S1. Their winning stories are displayed in the library and can be read there. Written by Mrs Leckie.
S4 Parents’ Night – Thursday 9th November
There will be an S4 Parents’ Night on Thursday 9th November 4.15pm – 6.45pm. A representative from the SQA will be at this event to discuss with parents and carers changes to the Nat 5 Qualifications. New College Lanarkshire will be at this event to provide information on potential pupil destinations.

Award Winning Author Cathy MacPhail Visits Coltness High School
Cathy MacPhail, author of more than 45 children and teen fiction novels, visited 3rd year pupils’ on Monday 30th October. She gave a really interesting talk on how she gets her ideas for her books. One of the 3rd year classes had read one of Cathys most recent books entitled Mosi’s War about a refugee living in Glasgow. Cathy says ‘I like writing about real-life themes. I always say that for me the real magic is where the idea comes from’.
Dyslexia Awareness Week 6th – 11th November 2017
The theme of Dyslexia Awareness Week is ‘Positive about Dyslexia’ We are positive about the skills and talents of children and adults with dyslexia. We are positive that with the right support, children and adults with dyslexia can reach their full potential. We are positive that children and adults with dyslexia can be successful in education, work and life. We are working to help turn the negatives into positives. We are #positiveaboutdyslexia
PTA Racenight Friday 3rd November
Tickets are currently available for the event of the year, the Race Night organised by the Coltness HS PTA. Tickets cost £5 with the doors opening at 7.30pm, first race at 8pm, Friday 3rd November. BYOB and light catering will be provided. Great prizes on offer for winners with raffles and entertainment as well. Please contact a member of the PTA or the School office for tickets. Poetry Competition Winner
The winner of this year’s poetry competition to celebrate National Poetry Day was Lara, a pupil from 1S1. The theme of this year’s competition was ‘Freedom’ and her poem, also entitled ‘Freedom’, is displayed in the library. Abby’s poem has also been sent to the Scottish Poetry Library in Edinburgh. Sports Ambassadors
This year’s Sports Ambassadors have been selected and are ready to start promoting opportunities within the school and community. Twelve senior pupils have been selected for this role and recently attended the North Lanarkshire Active Schools Ambassadors conference at Ravenscraig. It was here they met other ambassadors from across NL and worked on sports specific coaching ideas and promotional tools. The Ambassadors this year are: Rugby – Daniel Bartlett and Reid McLean; Netball – Erin Rodie and Tamsin Murray; Fitness – Hannah Russell; Dance – Emma Ross; Athletics – Amy McAdam and Pamela Newell; Football – Stacey Peel and Rachel Armit; Young Ambassadors – Eve Richardson and Euan Scott. The Ambassadors shall be leading and supporting lunch and afterschool clubs and preparing pupils
