The Annual Voter Registration Canvass is underway, and residents in Lanarkshire are asked to ensure that they complete the Household Enquiry Forms (HEF) sent to each household.
Residents will need to complete the form issued to them and return it as soon as possible to ensure that they will remain on the electoral register and are able to vote in any future elections.
The return of the form will also save on local authority money as the Electoral Registration Officer is required in law to send a canvasser to households who do not return the form.
- When households receive the form, it is essential residents check that their details are correct, amend these details where necessary and send the form back
- Households are encouraged to use the Freephone service if their details have not changed, or the online facility where there are changes. The use of these services not only makes confirming details easier, it also saves on money compared to the costs of returning the paper form through the post
- This year’s canvass is again looking to capture the details of young persons due to the change in who can vote at certain future elections; details are contained within the form
Residents are also being reminded that credit reference agencies use the electoral register as a check when assessing credit applications. Therefore if people are not on the register, their ability to access credit may be affected.
Please note that a fine of up to £1000 may be imposed for failing to supply the information.
Residents are advised that if they have any queries with the form, they should contact the Lanarkshire Electoral Registration office on Freephone 0800 030 4333.
