Under 14 Lanarkshire Cup

Braidhurst Under 14s started their defence of the Lanarkshire Cup with a 2-1 victory away to Duncanrig High School. The game was played on a very difficult surface which impacted on the quality of football but Braidhurst adapted better than the hosts and were unfortunate not to go in front with chances missed in the first half. Early in the second half their efforts were rewarded through an own goal after good work from Dylan Kerr in the build-up. Dylan Campbell then doubled the visitors lead with a left footed strike that found the back of the net via the post. Duncanrig managed to halve the deficit to ensure a nervy finish to the match but Braidhurst held on to deservedly win the tie. Mr Clarke and Mr O’Toole were delighted to see the boys progress into the Quarter-Finals where they will now face the prospect of yet another away tie.

Line Up: Matthew Connelly; Craig Cardno (Sub: David Cleland), Ross Brownlie, Steven Rodger, Jamie Hamilton; Cameron Williamson, Cameron Stewart (MOTM), Dylan Kerr, Dylan Campbell; Euan Simm (Sub: Kyle Laikowski), Robbie Brown.

HIGHER PHOTOGRAPHY VISIT

A group of Braidhurst High Higher Photography students visited New College Lanarkshire to view the exhibition of HNC and HND Photography.   After the exhibition, there were demonstrations on a range of photographic studio techniques.   This was followed up with a studio workshop which pupils participated in.

SCOTLAND U15 TRAINING GROUP

Five S3 boys, Reece McAlear, Jack Brown, Adam Kettings, Craig Renicks and Marc Ross, each spent one day out of school last week to attend the Scotland U15 training camp at the national sports performance centre, the Oriam in Edinburgh.  Each boy played two football games throughout the day and Jack Brown commented that “it was great to have the opportunity to play against high quality players.”

FIRE REACH

A group of 12 S3 pupils recently completed their Fire Reach training course which was delivered by a trio of tutors at Coatbridge Fire Station.  During the program pupils learnt CPR, first aid, how to use a defibrillator and fire hose and the general principles of carrying out a successful search and rescue during a fire emergency.  On the last day of the course pupils were expected to deliver a presentation in front of their parents and school staff which they all were able to do.  The pupils were then awarded a Fire Reach certificate and a SQA National 4 qualification.  Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the training with one pupil remarking that “the course has been lots of fun and we now know how to save lives.”
