FIRE REACH

A group of S3 girls attended Coatbridge community Fire station to take part in the fire reach programme. The week course consisted of team building exercises, constructing a home fire plan, practical activities including scenes where the girls had to rescue casualties from home fires and road traffic accidents and a comprehensive health and safety programme.

The girls developed communication and transferable skills through taking part in practical rescue exercises and group work. They finished the week with a presentation in front of parents, fire personnel and teachers.

This included a practical demonstration of a rescue from a road traffic accident which involved the girls arriving in the fire appliance, removing the roof of the vehicle. Rescuing the casualty from the vehicle using the appropriate apparatus. Administering CPR at the scene and working together to ensure all participants were safe.

The girls enjoyed their experience and worked hard to achieve a recognised National 4 award.

PRIMARY SCHOOL DAY OF DANCE

The annual day of dance for P6 and P7 pupils from Muir Street and Logans Primary was held on Friday 22nd January.   It was a wonderful spectacle of Scottish Country Dance, the pupils wore tartan sashes and waistcoats adding to the atmosphere.   It was obvious the pupils had spent considerable time preparing for this event learning complex steps and dance patterns, thanks to teaching staff for working with the pupils.
