JAI QUITONGO

On Wednesday 22nd February, Scotland U21 and Greenock Morton Football Club player Jai Quitongo visited the school to speak with S2 pupils currently participating in the performance school of football programme.  Jai shared advice with pupils regarding the importance of listening and having a good attitude whilst also sharing his mother’s words of wisdom on the sacrifices required to make it as a professional football player and that all the hard work would be worth it as “you might want to be them tonight, but they’ll want to be you tomorrow.”

JUDO STAR

Emerging Judo star, S6 pupil Nicole Weir, recently attended the Kendal Open Championship on Sunday 12th February.  At the tournament Nicole earned a silver medal in the 60 kilos category, which in itself is a fantastic achievement, which was especially impressive as it was her first competition.  Nicole is a great credit to Braidhurst High School and Hamilton Judo Club not only for her sporting achievement but also for her positive ‘can-do’ attitude towards training and competing.

CONTEMPORARY PERFORMANCE PRACTICE DEGREE PROGRAMME

Former pupil Holly Worton has been offered a place on the prestigious Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s ‘Contemporary Performance Practice’ degree programme.  Last year, in order to strengthen her skills and improve her audition chances Holly won a place at the Junior Conservatoire and has also been participating in weekly Lifelong Learning classes.  Holly’s dedication, hard work and perseverance paid off as she delivered an outstanding audition which won her a place on the conservatoire’s undergraduate degree course which she will start in September 2017.

Under 15 Scottish Cup

Braidhurst Under 15’s run in the Scottish Cup came to a cruel end on Thursday evening as they were edged out on penalties away to St. Ninian’s High School in Kirkintilloch. The visitors had dominated the game and deservedly led thanks to a well-taken goal from Dylan Morrow. However, they failed to further their advantage and missed chances would come back to haunt them. The hosts equalised from a free kick in the dying seconds of the match and they then went on to win on penalties 4-1. Mr Clarke and Mr O’Toole were bitterly disappointed with the outcome but proud of the team’s efforts. They now turn their attention to the Lanarkshire Cup where they hope to go one better than last year and win it.

Line Up: Tommy Hunter; Owen Lee, Euan Lindsay, Jack Brown, Logan Bulloch; Kyle Laughlin (Sub: Ross Lachlan), Adam Kettings, Paul Reid, Dylan Morrow; Liam Scott; Alastair Small.

Under 14 Lanarkshire Cup

Braidhurst Under 14s started their defence of the Lanarkshire Cup with a 2-1 victory away to Duncanrig High School. The game was played on a very difficult surface which impacted on the quality of football but Braidhurst adapted better than the hosts and were unfortunate not to go in front with chances missed in the first half. Early in the second half their efforts were rewarded through an own goal after good work from Dylan Kerr in the build-up. Dylan Campbell then doubled the visitors lead with a left footed strike that found the back of the net via the post. Duncanrig managed to halve the deficit to ensure a nervy finish to the match but Braidhurst held on to deservedly win the tie. Mr Clarke and Mr O’Toole were delighted to see the boys progress into the Quarter-Finals where they will now face the prospect of yet another away tie.

Line Up: Matthew Connelly; Craig Cardno (Sub: David Cleland), Ross Brownlie, Steven Rodger, Jamie Hamilton; Cameron Williamson, Cameron Stewart (MOTM), Dylan Kerr, Dylan Campbell; Euan Simm (Sub: Kyle Laikowski), Robbie Brown.
