On Wednesday 8th January the school welcomed to school the Deputy First Minister John Swinney, Scottish FA representatives Rod Petrie, Brian McLaughlin and Malky Mackay, Motherwell and Wishaw MSP Clare Adamson, Deputy Leader of North Lanarkshire Council Councillor Kelly, Convenor of Education & Families Councillor McNally and Education Officer Anne Munroe, amongst others, for a Scottish FA JD Performance School visit.
The event opened with a presentation and Q&A from Brian McLaughlin and Malky Mackay which was followed by current performance school players, Shay Nevans, Jack Bell, Jacob Blaney and Alastair Small sharing their perspective of the programme. Former pupils Leon McCann and Cameron Williamson were also on hand to offer their experience as well.
Head Teacher Mrs Rooney and Principal Teacher of P.E Mr O’Neill also spoke to the gathered audience about the many successes of the programme before the visitors were given a tour of the school, which included S6 pupil Jay Blakeway showcasing the school’s ‘Developing the Young Workforce’ Learner Journey wall. The visitors were also given the chance to observe a coaching session of the players by SFA coach Stevie Clarke on the school’s astroturf pitch.
