Pupil Equity Funding has given us an even greater opportunity to set our own agenda and the means to pursue it. We were very clear, at the start of the session, that raising literacy rates across the Broad General Education phase of the school was one of our key priorities and promoting reading for pleasure has been central to our strategy for achieving this goal. In an age of smartphones, games consoles, social media and television on demand, the humble book is all too easily overlooked. With this in mind, the commitment our pupils have shown to their personal reading is laudable and we were keen to recognise that. The Reading Championship, led by our Librarian, Mrs. Scott, has allowed us to do this. Our aim, moving forward into session 2018-19, is to increase the number of young people who achieve this award.
