Primary 5

The Kilogram and the Gram

Learning Intention: to be able to convert kilograms to grams and vice versa

A gram is a small unit used to weigh objects. It indicates how heavy the object is.

A packet of crisps is about 30 grams.

A kilogram is made up of 1000 grams.     1 kg = 1000 g

Scales are used to weigh objects

Examples:

3 kg = 3000 g

6000 g = 6 kg

4750 g = 4 kg 750 g

2 kg 30 g = 2030 g

Now try some practice examples by completing Exercise 1 Question 1, 2 and 3 -click on link below
