Primary 5

Learning Intention : I can multiply decimals by 10, 100,1000

In class we have done a lot of working on multiplying by 10,100, and 1000 and we have used a  place value grid on the board to help us. To recap when you multiply by 10 the digits all move one place to the left .

Example: 3.6 x10 = 36 ( The 3 Units moves one place to the left and takes on the value 3 Tens, the 6 tenths moves one place to the left and takes on the value 6 Units.

  1. Click on the link below and open up the powerpoint in the file. Work through the activities on the powerpoint slideshow with an adult. This recaps on work we have done multiplying whole numbers by 10,100,1000 and also explains very well multiplying and dividing decimals.
  2. Click on the resources folder in the link and select one of the differentiated worksheets to complete. I would suggest starting with 1 star. Also, there is a place value grid to help you visually move the digits to the left and right to help calculate the answers.

Decimals Challenge: My height Ask children to write their height in centimetres. They record their height in metres (by dividing by 100), in millimetres (by multiplying by 10) and in kilometres (by dividing by 1000). Record these in your jotter.  Repeat and do the same with the heights of other family.

Mrs Manning will have a video  team meeting at 10am on Wednesday to go over any problems you might be having. Good luck everyone!
