School Meals

School meals are cooked on the premises and are served in the Cafeteria. There is usually a choice of two main courses, a selection of hot and cold snacks and one dessert.

The school operates a cashless catering system. This means that when staff or pupils get to the till in the cafeteria no money is handed over to the catering staff. Before pupils choose their meal they should have inserted money to cover the cost of the meal, into one of four machines which are located throughout the school. The money is added to the pupils’ account by keying in a pin number. This unique pin number is issued along with their Young Scot cards and should not be divulged to others. Pupils can add money to their meal account on a daily basis. Once pupils select their meal they proceed to the cash desk and swipe their Young Scot card or enter their pin into the pad. The cost of the meal will be deducted from the pupils’ account.

The cafeteria has a pre-order service. Staff and pupils can pre-order food till 11am each day. It will then be available at a designated point at lunchtime. This is to reduce the need to queue at this busy time.

Saint Stephen’s is a “Health Promoting School”, through improved health awareness, greater opportunities for physical activity and healthier school meals and tuck shop provision.

For medical reasons some pupils follow special diets. Parents of such pupils are asked to inform the school of this so that we can arrange special meals with kitchen staff.

Information on entitlement to free school meals can be found in the school handbook.
