Maths and Numeracy

Through active play, the children are encouraged to develop numeracy and math skills. Throughout the playroom and outdoors there are opportunities to explore and experiment with:
Number, Money and Measure, Shape, Position and Movement and Information Handling. The children are supported to understand and use the mathematical language of size, shape, and number.

All staff now as part of very good practice will use SEAL strategies when playing with children – (Stages Early Arithmetic Learning) ,

  • counting forwards / backwards from number other than 0,
  • using finger patterns to count,
  • using visuals to count,  use of number                                                                lines, and numicon resources.
