Transitions

Transitions can be a difficult time for children. In preparation for starting school children and staff visit our feeder Primary School throughout the year.

In August staff support schools with our children’s first days in primary one, they also spend a day in primary one in September to see how well our children have settled and to see the continuation of the early level curriculum. We are very fortunate to be able to invite Newark Primary one back every week for a play date in the nursery, this is a great way for our children to hear all about primary one from their friends.

Throughout the year our children enjoy monthly sessions at the gym with primary one as well as class visits in the second term where they get to know the infant staff.

We have nursery ambassadors (Primary 6) from Newark Primary who spend a block supporting our children in the nursery, this helps develop relationships and confidence for all involved as they will become their buddies in the third term for outdoor play and learning.

Our children get to know what their school looks like. This helps them be more confident when it becomes time to start school themselves.

We are very fortunate to be able to attend assemblies at Newark Primary as well as  shared reading in St Michael’s.
