What – a – week!

Blink, and it’s gone. By ‘it’s’ we mean the week. This was an extremely busy and action packed one. Between Scottish Opera, Findhorn and Sports Practice, it’s reached Friday extremely quickly.

On Monday, we have some pupils helping at the P3 Tennis Tournament, and the Drummond Sports. We’re hoping that Mr O’Parka is going to be in on Monday also – so it will be a busy ‘un.

What a glorious week of weather we’ve had – remember to check out the weather blog – Fergus and Cameron recorded it as 18 degrees this morning:

Our friends at Melville International School tried Irn-Bru this week after our recommendation. Check out the video in which you can see their reaction, drinking it for the first time. $3 (New Zealand Dollars) for a can – quite pricey indeed:

Global Warming: ACT NOW!

Today we created a campaign speech in writing to STOP Global Warming. We realised that there are lots of things we can all do to prevent the effects on the planet.

Your BLOGGING homework:
For tomorrow (THURSDAY)
– Write a sentence IN YOUR OWN WORDS answering the question ‘What is Global Warming?’ and post it on the blog.

This afternoon we also begun planning LOCHARDIL WEATHER– our very own weather station in Lochardil. We’re aiming to measure and record the rain, wind, cloud-cover and temperature in Lochardil twice a day. This will begin next week. We’ll update when there is more information.

    Bon week-end!

REMEMBER: Your picture homework for the ‘Family Favourites Cook Book’ for MONDAY!

Another fabulous week for Primary 6/7. Seems like only yesterday we were updating the blog last Friday. The good news is as of Monday we have INTERNET in our new building meaning that we can get the ‘Building Blog’ up and running again, and get our Smart boards up and running!

A fantastic Friday afternoon in specialist groups:

With Mrs.P, there was the creation of some beautiful watercolour still life sweetpea paintings which have been added to our display cabinet. We now have enough art work to start a small art gallery.

Mrs Mac took us around the world again in another episode of Geography. Check this GAME out by clicking the link below. There are 3 levels. You could all manage ‘intermediate’, but we challenge you to do ‘expert’.

    CONTINENTS AND OCEANS GAME

Finally with Monsieur Brasier, we were able to say what the weather was and each of our four seasons. Equipe Lyon and Equipe Dijon are joint top on our leader board with 30 points, and in joint third place, Equipe Marseille and Equipe Nice with 27 points.

Visit the new ‘En francais’ page to the RIGHT of this blog under ‘Pages’ by clicking the link below. There are lots of French activities to try at home:

    Descriptive Weather…

Today we begun looking at descriptive language within Writer’s Craft. We read some excellent examples of how writers can describe the weather using adjectives, similes, metaphors and personification.

HOMEWORK TASK: For TOMORROW, Wednesday 22nd August
    – Choose a piece of weather that interests YOU.
    –  Find 5 words/phrases to describe your piece of weather. TRY AND BE IMAGINATIVE. These can be adjectives, similes, metaphors or examples of personification.
Write this in your homework diary/ a piece of paper!

Here are the examples we read today:

‘It was a cold grey day in late November. The weather had changed overnight, when a backing wind brought a granite sky and a mizzling rain with it, and although it was now only a little after two o’clock in the afternoon the pallor of a winter evening seemed to have closed upon the hills, cloaking them in mist.’

‘The sunset filled the entire sky with the deep colour of rubies, setting the clouds ablaze.’

‘I wield the flail of the lashing hail
And whiten the green plains under,
And then again I dissolve it in rain,
And laugh as I pass in thunder.’
