Modern Languages

  • Learning other languages enables children to make connections with different people and their cultures and encourages them to become global citizens.

French

  • French is taught from P1 to P7.
  • In the early stages, French is taught with an emphasis on listening and speaking  to avoid any confusion with English Language learning. Pupils also enjoy singing games.
  • From P3, pupils begin to be introduced to reading and writing. Vocabulary and simple sentences are taught.
  • In P6 and P7, pupils continue to develop oral, reading, listening and writing skills using a structured approach.
  • Liaison with secondary schools means pupils extend skills learned in primary.

We have established strong links with some of our French and Spanish parents  who support the teaching of Languages by visiting classes from P1 to P4 to read stories and go over French numbers and colours.
