North Queensferry Parent Newsletter

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been lovely to see all the children back at school and welcome our new pupils.  Our primary children all look so smart wearing school uniform. Pupils have settled well into the usual routines in school. There have been some changes and these are detailed below.

P.E

Children are now able to return to having P.E. kit in school and getting changed for gym in school. If possible, it is useful for all children to have a separate gym bag and P.E. kit they can keep at school. This allows some flexibility in the weekly timetable and children being ready to wear gym clothes should they need to. Kits will be sent home regularly to allow for washing.

Lunch Times

Nursery – 12 o’clock

P.1 and P. 2 pupils – 12:25

P.3 – 7 – 12:35

Water Bottles

Please supply your child with a water bottle each day. Children can top up their bottles during the day.

Ardroy

We have placed a booking at Ardroy Outdoor Education Centre for 27th February until 3rd of March 2023. More details to follow shortly.

Flu Vaccinations

As usual, flu vaccinations will take in place for all children. Children were given more detailed information from NHS in their bags. Vaccinations will take place on Thursday 22nd September in school.

Toast Club

Toast Club starts on Monday 5th September and will be open Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays for the rest of this term. Toast Club has proved to be very popular this term and unfortunately some pupils were not able to get a space. However, pupils will have the opportunity to attend Toast Club each term. Look out for information in school bags.

Playpark

Primary children have been involved in the North Queensferry Action Plan over the last year or so. This has included talks from Fife Council colleagues on how information, ideas and opinions are gathered from local people on what they feel the community needs and our pupils shared their ideas with staff then too. As part of this process, there is a plan to revamp the play park at the top of Brock Street. Children have created their own designs and identified play park equipment they would like to see there. This weekend, as part of the Village Show, their designs and ideas will be shared in the Community Centre. The Community Centre is open from 2 p.m.

 School Website

Our school website has information you may find useful and is linked to our Twitter page too.

As part of the parent survey completed at the end of last academic session, some parents felt the class Sways became more challenging to navigate as the year went on, as we added more information to this app. We have now created nursery and class pages within the school website. We will share information there and although nursery will continue to use SeeSaw to share learning, each class will share learning and images using the website. The website is available using this link.

Christmas Fayre

As I am sure you are aware, we have been unable to hold a Christmas Fayre in school over the last 2 years. Children have created online companies to sell their goods and this has proved very successful. However, it would be lovely to perhaps have a blended approach, where children still create their online companies and have a Christmas Fayre in school too. If you would like to volunteer to help organise a Christmas Fayre please get in touch by phone or email. Thank you.

Book Fayre

The Book Fayre will be visiting school and available to visit after school from Monday 26th of September and Thursday 29th September 3 – 3:30. Children will also get an opportunity to browse the books on offer during that week.

Nursery

This term our suggested donation is £16. This helps us buy snacks for the children.

As always, we welcome donations of tissues to nursery. We go through quite a few over the year especially when summer and winter colds are about. If you could bring a box into nursery, it would much appreciated.

We encourage independence in our learners, and this includes toileting and getting ready to play outside or return indoors. To make this easier for children, we suggest wearing legging or joggers, shoes with Velcro straps and looser items of clothing that children can get on and off themselves.

As always, if you feel there may be something I can help you with, please do not hesitate to contact me on 01383 602425 or northqueensferryps.headteacher@fife.gov.uk

Kind regards
