P5B – Mrs Leverton

Welcome to P5B

Literacy: In term 2, P5B have been focusing on planning and developing our persuasive writing skills, from watching and looking at seasonal adverts and discussing why they are persuasive, highlighting key features of written persuasive texts, and producing our own.

P5B have written several of their own persuasive texts, including linking to our IDL climate topic and researching why palm oil should be banned, to lighter topics such as CATS vs DOGS. We’ve ended the term looking at planning balanced arguments and the pros and cons if it really were Christmas every day!

Numeracy:

In term 2 we have covered fractions and decimals, from finding equivalent fractions to strategies for sharing numbers and item equally. We have also been exploring all things measurement, ending with calculating area and perimeter of shapes. We have written our names in blocks to calculate the perimeter and area, we have had a go at estimating and comparing weights, as well as converting between units, such as g and kg, and m/cm/mm.

IDL: We explored our topic Climate through our persuasive palm oil writing and posters, and we have then looked at environmental issues linked to all the waste made at Christmas. Did you know 74 million mince pies get binned yearly?

We also took part with P5A in the Festive Fun enterprise project and our company name was Sparkly Snowflakes! We came up with a jingle, designed posters and together we sold out our stand and had a very successful night.
