Attendance

Attendance

As parents and carers, you will all be aware that regular attendance at school is essential if children are to reach their full potential socially, emotionally and academically.  There is clear evidence that children who do not attend school regularly are less likely to achieve their full potential.

Absences are regularly monitored at Methilhill, in line with Fife and National Guidelines.  Lateness is also recorded on the register and this too is monitored.

Of course children do get ill and need time off school.  However, if your child is going to be absent or late then please telephone the school office as early as possible.  Failure to make this contact will result in your child’s absence being recorded as “unauthorised”. If we have had no contact from you we will send a text message to your phone. You will be able to respond to this text, giving a reason for the absence.

On return to school please, where possible, write a note to the class teacher explaining why your child was absent if you have not previously made contact.

If staff have cause to be concerned about your child’s attendance and/or punctuality you will be contacted by letter.  If thereafter, there is no improvement you will be invited to attend a meeting in school to discuss how we can work together to bring about improvement.

As always I appreciate your support in this matter and I genuinely believe that by working in partnership we can make a difference.

We will continue to update you on our aim to improve attendance over the year.
