P1A – Mrs Stein

Welcome to P1A

Literacy
In Literacy, we have been learning to read our single sounds and are now beginning to learn to read digraphs. We are continuing to practise blending sounds together to support us with reading words. We are familiar with the characters in our Oxford Reading Tree stories and are building on the number of tricky words that we can read from memory. We are beginning to use our knowledge of letters and sounds to support us with building a sentence.

Numeracy
This term we have continued to focus on Counting and Number Word Sequences in Numeracy. We are learning about numbers up to 20 and beyond. We have also started to develop our Calculating skills by learning about number bonds and number sentences.
One of our Maths topics for this term is Angle and Symmetry. We have been learning to use and respond to positional language. We have also explored symmetry in the environment and created symmetrical patterns using folding and different concrete materials.
We have also been learning about Data and Analysis; we created living graphs and explored pictograms and bar graphs.
Other Curricular Areas

This term we have had the opportunity to take part in Festive Fun. Primary 1 had a brainstorm about what product we would like to create to sell at the school’s Christmas Fayre. We decided to make Christmas Cards using finger painting. We then had the task of creating a product name ‘Christmas Crafties’ and designing our own logo. Once our products were complete, we shared our learning with the dragons during our Festive Fun afternoon. We had a number of volunteers from each class come to support us to sell our Christmascards at the Fayre. It was a huge success as we sold out! Well done Primary 1!

One of our biggest achievements this term has been our Primary 1 Nativity – ‘The Twinkly Nativity’. We have worked incredibly hard to put together a fantastic performance. We have shown commitment and confidence to learning songs, actions and lines to perform. We hope everyone enjoyed the show!

Together We Learn. Together We Achieve.
