Literacy
In literacy, pupils have been working hard to strengthen their writing skills through daily writing tasks. We are exploring using a range of openers, connectives, punctuation and vocabulary. This term we have had a particular focus on persuasive techniques. We have explored a range of persuasive texts and developed thoughtful arguments for and against a variety of topics. We have created persuasive posters, written reports and letters.
To celebrate World Book Day, our class used the Book Creator app to write and design our own storybooks. Pupils created imaginative tales aimed at a Primary 1–2 audience, carefully choosing simple vocabulary, colourful illustrations, and engaging layouts. The finished digital books show fantastic creativity and growing confidence in both literacy and digital skills.
Numeracy
In Numeracy and Maths, we have been exploring a range of topics to develop our understanding and confidence.
This term we have been learning about:
- Co‑ordinates
We practised plotting and reading points in the four quadrants and used co‑ordinates to follow and create simple maps and patterns. - Measuring and Drawing Angles
We revised how to use a protractor accurately, measured angles of different types, and drew angles to a given size. - Word Problems
We applied our numeracy skills to solve multi‑step word problems, focusing on selecting the correct operations and showing clear working.
Over the last few weeks, we have been deepening our understanding of fractions. So far, we have:
- revised how to identify fractions in shapes, sets and number lines
- explored equivalent fractions
- practised simplifying fractions to their lowest terms
- learned about mixed numbers and improper fractions, including how to convert between them
- begun working on finding a fraction of an amount, using strategies such as dividing by the denominator and multiplying by the numerator
- We will be moving onto adding and subtracting fractions
H&W
This term in P.E. with Miss Turner, we’ve been busy trying out a great mix of activities, including Scottish country dancing, hockey, netball and dodgeball. Everyone has had the chance to build new skills, stay active and work together as a team.
In class, we have been learning about important topics that help us make healthy, confident choices:
- Vaping – what vapes are and why they can be harmful to our bodies.
- Smoking – how smoking affects our lungs, heart, and overall health.
- Alcohol – how alcohol can impact the body and why it is only for adults.
- Drugs – the difference between medicines that help us and harmful drugs that can be dangerous if misused.
We have also been learning about:
- Body Image and Insecurities – how the way we see ourselves can be influenced by friends, family, social media and celebrities. We talked about how everyone is different, how to be kind to ourselves, and how to build confidence.
We have shared ideas, asked questions, and discussed ways to make positive choices and look after ourselves.
