Literacy:

In literacy, we have been focusing on spelling, reading, writing and grammar. In spelling, we have looked at different spelling strategies and have focused on spelling patterns using initial sounds and digraphs. In writing, we have been focusing on Information Reports and have been writing fact files on dinosaurs. We have used facts and diagrams to write about dinosaur’s characteristics, habitats and what they eat. In grammar, we have focused on sentence structure, using Colourful Semantics to identify who, what and where within sentences. We have also looked at common nouns, proper nouns and conjunctions. Within reading, we have been focusing on high frequency words and have been doing daily inputs to improve reading as part of the Quality Improvement Program. The children have loved seeing their progress as the chart increases (see picture).

Numeracy:

In numeracy, we have focused on number patterns, addition, subtraction and counting. We have looked at counting forwards and backwards in 2s, 5s and10s. We have focused on adding and subtracting numbers to 100, adding doubles and near doubles and adding and subtracting multiples of 10. We have also been ordering numbers to 1000 in multiples of 1, 10 and 100. In maths, we have explored 2D and 3D shapes and their properties.

HWB:

In Health and Wellbeing, we have explored the Rights Respecting Schools class charter, school values and our emotions. We have explored uniques and differences through different stories and looked at how we are all unique and different in ourselves. We have explored parts of our body that make us unique too. In Emotion Works, we have explored naming emotions and how they might look different. In P.E. we have looked at throwing and catching and dribbling, using our gross motor skills and co-ordination.

Other Curricular Areas:

Our topic has been Dinosaurs and we have explored dinosaur habitats, types of dinosaurs and their characteristics. We have created different habitats using outdoor resources and natural materials (see photo). We have also created dinosaur footprints and silhouettes in art. We had an exciting online workshop with the National Museum of Scotland that showed us different fossils and bones of dinosaurs. In French, we have been learning numbers up to 30, consolidating our prior learning and learning numbers beyond 20. In ICT we have been learning to log onto a laptop and use the different tools in Seesaw. In Outdoor Learning, we have looked at orienteering by making islands (see picture) and used loose parts to create a marble run. We have visited Buckhaven Library a few times and read different books of our choice.
