Primary 6 have been reading the class novel ‘Out of the Depths’ by Cathy Macphail. The children have been really enjoying the story and often share theories and predictions with one another after each chapter. Based on the novel, the children have been developing their inference skills as well as developing their skill to answer more complex higher order thinking questions. The class have enjoyed the novel so much, they have requested to read the second book of the series in the final term!
The class have been busy working on area and perimeter this term, as well as focussing on measurement, directions and symmetry. Children enjoyed measuring shapes around the classroom for perimeter as well as creating block versions of themselves and calculating the perimeter for this.
Primary 6 enjoyed students from the high school coming down to do sessions on basketball with them. They worked on developing passing, shooting and dribbling skills as well as continuing to look for space and think ahead to next moves to help support team / try to score. It seemed like a lot of fun and the class worked well for the high school visitors.
For science this term, we have explored body systems as well as our senses and what our body and mind does when certain senses are impaired. We have explored the digestive system, the respiratory system, circulatory system and the skeletal system. We had great fun building the skeleton (Dave) and labelling his bones. We also recreated the digestive system as well as models to show how the lungs work in our body.
We have also been fortunate enough to have many pupils from P6 class attend various sport festivals, such as dance, rugby, football, hockey and badminton. A big well done to all of those involved! We are looking forward to our final term together to see what more memories we can make!
