P7 ~ Miss Lochery

Primary 7 were so excited to receive their iPads last term. A man and lady from the Transforming Learning Team came in to school and gave us our iPads. It was such an exciting day. We had to learn, set up and unbox them, including creating a passcode and learning how to customize our home screen! We had to learn how to sign into our Apple IDs ourselves. Some of us needed some help because it was a little tricky. (Austin)

We have been learning how to use some of the Apps like Canva to create posters. We have also enjoyed creating a book on Book Creator, showing what we had learned about electricity. We have also developed our skills creating our own videos on Clips.

STEM Challenge

This term we really enjoyed taking part in a STEM Challenge run by Edinburgh College. The STEM activity was hard and challenging because we had to work together as a team and come up with a nice and stable bridge idea.

We got put into random groups with people we don’t normally talk to. We had to make a bridge that was as strong as possible without spending a lot of money. All the materials had prices, and we had to record how much money we were spending. During the challenge, we had to put weights on to see if our designs were working and this also helped us to see which one was the strongest. It took us the entire morning and a little bit of the afternoon. We talked to the lecturers running the challenge on a Teams call at the beginning to learn about how to make bridges strong and stable and learn the rules of the challenging challenge. It was really interesting.

We were in a competitive competition with a few other schools who were also in P7. All our groups had to compete to see who had the strongest, weakest, cheapest and most expensive. At the end we showed our bridges on the Teams, and they gave us feedback. The cheapest bridge, strongest bridge and the group that worked the best as a team won a prize.

Overall, the activity was really fun but hard at the same time. Working as part of a team isn’t always easy but we think we were able to practise during this challenge. We had to learn to compromise, adapt, communicate and problem solve. (Harris and Aidan)

Rugby

This term we have been very lucky to get some Rugby taster sessions. Jack from the SRU came into school and helped us learn some of the rules of Rugby and helped us develop some of our skills for Rugby. It was a lot of fun, and everyone joined in.

Here are some of our favourite parts:

  • Lexi- I enjoyed the mini games where we had to work in teams.
  • Bonnie- My favourite part was trying to kick the ball across the playground.
  • Tyler- I really enjoyed spending time with the class.
  • Logan- I really enjoyed playing the full games.
  • Bonnie – We really enjoyed taking part and the mini games were a lot of fun but very challenging!

Literacy

In literacy we enjoyed reading ‘The Accidental Time Traveller’ by Janis Mackay and we are now reading ‘The Weather Weaver’ by Tamsen Mori. We have been exploring characterisation and settings.

We are currently focusing on functional writing. We have enjoyed creating posters for many events. We have especially enjoyed using Canva to design fantastic posters for the Halloween Disco and Christmas Fayre. We are becoming very confident when using that App. We are currently learning how to write reports. We will soon be moving onto leaflets and writing instruction.

Numeracy

In numeracy this term, we have been working on different strategies for multiplication and division.
