P5 ~ Miss Liddle

Literacy
We have recently started reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Through the novel, we have been practising our prediction and inference skills, as well as showing our understanding of what we have read and listened to by answering different kinds of questions.
We really enjoyed taking part in a range of reading activities during Reading Week. One highlight was the live chat with Alastair Chisholm, where we loved finding out about his inspirations for his novels. Georgia was even surprised to discover that she already has some of his books at home! Our favourite activity of the week was the Guess the Shelfie competition, even though we didn’t win. We were especially shocked to realise that we had guessed Miss Liddle’s favourite childhood book wrong!
Numeracy
This term, we’ve been busy measuring length and we loved using rulers and tape measures to find out how tall our friends are and how long different objects around the classroom can be! Some of us even challenged ourselves by estimating first and then checking how close we were.
We’ve also been exploring number patterns and using our knowledge of the four operations to crack them. A few of us were feeling extra brave and took on the Fibonacci sequence and using tables and formulas to help complete tricky patterns. It was tough… but very satisfying when we figured them out!
Health and Wellbeing
In PE, we’ve been developing our basketball skills with help from some brilliant Sports Leaders from Levenmouth Academy and we’ve been having a great time doing it! We’ve really enjoyed working with the boys and learning new tricks to improve our game.
Music
We’ve now finished our block of learning with the Youth Music Initiative, and it has been brilliant!  With help from Mrs Thomson, we learned how to read music and play along on different instruments. It was so exciting to see how much we improved and even better to make music together as a class!
