We have had a busy two terms settling into Primary 5.
Numeracy
This term, in numeracy, we have been working on our multiplication and division. We have been using different strategies to help us solve problems. We have enjoyed using technology to help us practise our tables and have particularly enjoyed playing Sumdog, Study Ladder and Fruit Splat. With Mitchell we also looked at Data Handling. We went outside and used tally charts to track the different colours of cars on the road. We then had to show our data in bar charts.
Literacy
To celebrate Bonfire Night, we created story boards retelling the story of Guy Fawkes. We then created our own sock puppets and worked in small groups to retell the story through the puppets.
We have enjoyed reading George’s Marvellous Medicine and The Twits and we are currently reading The Christmasaurus. Through our novels, we have been looking at character descriptions, settings and how we can up-level our writing by using description and WOW words. In writing we have also spent a little time working on personal writing.
St Andrew’s Day Service
We have been looking at Scotland this term because we were responsible for putting on the St Andrew’s Day service along with Primary 5/6. We looked at Scottish culture and Scottish traditions. We used Scotland as inspiration for some poetry writing. We also looked at Charles Rennie Mackintosh and decorated the Community Centre with our poetry and artwork. We also looked at Gillian Kyle.

Science
With Miss Mitchell, we looked at Forces. We went up to the park and used the playground equipment to determine whether they needed to be pushed or pulled to work effectively.
Pantomime
Primary 5 had a great time at the Pantomime. It was amazing, and lots of fun!
