P5/6 ~ Miss McAvoy

Literacy Update
In P5/6 for Literacy, we have been focusing on procedural writing. Pupils have been learning how to structure clear and detailed instructions using the correct format. We have explored features such as titles, subheadings, numbered steps, and clear, concise language. The class has enjoyed creating their own procedures and ensuring their instructions are easy for others to follow.
Numeracy Update
In P5/6 for Numeracy, we have been developing our understanding of fractions and symmetry. Learners have been identifying and comparing fractions, as well as exploring equivalent fractions in practical and written tasks. We have also been investigating lines of symmetry in shapes and patterns, using hands on activities to deepen our understanding.
Health and Wellbeing Update
As part of Health and Wellbeing in P5/6, we have been exploring how we treat one another. Through discussion and group activities, pupils have been reflecting on kindness, respect, and empathy. We have considered how our words and actions can positively impact others and how we can build supportive relationships within our classroom and wider school community.
Other Updates
Across our wider learning in P5/6, we have been exploring the achievements of Scottish inventors through both History and Science. We have been learning about the invention of the telephone and investigating how sound waves travel, helping us understand how we hear. Pupils have enjoyed linking scientific concepts with real life inventions and discoveries.
We also had a visit from the community police, who talked to us about the importance of kindness and the dangers of racism.
