Literacy:
This term we explored a range of traditional tales, discussing their characters, settings and common features. The children used these stories as inspiration to plan and write their own imaginative versions, showing great creativity and growing confidence in their writing skills. We also continued to develop reading fluency and comprehension through regular reading activities, and the class has been making strong progress in phonics as we build and apply new sounds in both reading and writing.

Numeracy and Mathematics:
Our numeracy focus has been on multiplying and dividing, with pupils learning to use groups, arrays and repeated addition to help their understanding. We have recently begun learning about fractions and have enjoyed exploring halves and quarters in practical ways. Many pupils are now fluent in their 2, 5 and 10 times tables, with some also moving on to challenge themselves with the 4 and 8 times tables.

RME:
Our RME learning has included exploring celebrations from different world religions. We learned about Eid and discussed the traditions and values associated with it. We also thought about New Year resolutions and what they mean. As we approached spring, we looked at the Easter story and why it is significant for Christians.

Expressive Arts:
In Art, the class has been studying different artistic styles and learning about famous artists, including Claude Monet. The children particularly enjoyed experimenting with techniques inspired by these artists and creating their own expressive pieces. A highlight of the term was our trip to the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art (Modern One) in Edinburgh, where the pupils explored a range of artworks and drew inspiration for their own creative projects.

Wider Achievements:
This term we have worked hard as a class on our enterprise to raise money for our garden area. We raised a fantastic £226.40 to put towards creating an area we can use for learning. We also celebrated EID this term and one of our fantastic children came up to talk to the class and helped plan our lessons around Ramadan. Overall, P2/3 have had a fantastic term, well done everyone!!
