P1/2 ~ Miss Swan

Literacy- This term we have had a large focus around common words and sight words to improve our reading and fluency. Primary ones are currently consolidating all their initial sounds as we start to move onto diagraphs. Primary 2s have continue their work on new sound and are improving their vocabulary through a range of phonics activities. This term we have had a focus on Scotland. We have taken part in a Scottish poem competition and have been looking at different Scottish myths and legends. This has complemented our writing as we have explored Nessie through newspaper writing and wanted posters.
Numeracy- This term we have been working on numbers to 100 thinking about number values and quantity. We have work on place value, ordering and sequencing numbers. We have started to look at fractions of a shape, this is something we are continuing with into next term.

HWB- School Trip- coming up Wednesday 19th March. Visitors- We recently had a visit from the local fire brigade who came into talk to all primary 1s and 2s about fire safety. All children also got the chance to use the water hose! P1/2 have been lucky enough to work with StAMP music over the course of this term. This is something we are continuing with into next term as we work closely with Ellen to deliver quality music inputs to our children.

Other Curricular Areas- We have been looking at French emotions this term and ways to express ourselves through drama and dance. We are continuing our work on emotion works as we move onto our next cog. We are starting our mini topic of weather. As we move into a new season, we plan to keep track of the weather and different features of seasons. Through a range of science and social subject activities we plan to collect and record our own data using a weather measurement tool made by the class.
