ASC Red

Welcome to the Red Class.  We are one of the Additional Support Classes (ASC) for P1 and P2.

Hello everyone,  my name is Miss Julie Crawford and I am very excited to be the teacher in the red class this year. I have been an ASC teacher for 15 years and have taught across all age ranges. I am looking forward to working with infants again and helping our new primary ones adjust to school life!  Mrs Lyn Malvenan will be working alongside me with the class as Pupil Support Assistant (PSA).  Lyn is also very experienced and we have been working together for the last 2 years.

What happens when we arrive at school?

Our class will be collected from the taxi/car park in the infant playground every morning. Adults will collect the children from taxis/cars and will bring them out at the end of the day.  Please can parents wait in the infant playground at the end of the day although space will be very limited in the little car park due to taxis.

What will we be learning?

We will have lots of fun in the red class while working to develop social skills, communication and turn taking.  All of our work is individualised to each child and tailored to meet their needs.  We set learning targets for the children in literacy/communication, numeracy and health and wellbeing.  These are shared with home and the children’s mainstream teacher (if applicable), assessed and updated regularly.

Our first topic (IDL) will be ‘Journeys’ we will be using We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ and ‘The Gruffalo’ as our topic books.

How do we keep in touch?

We use the Seesaw app to keep in touch with families and to share all of our learning and adventures through pictures, videos and notes.  This is also a good way for parents to share anything from home and to get in touch with the adults in class.

Weekly Timetable

We will have swimming every Monday at Cowdenbeath Pool.  Please send in swimming stuff on Monday mornings in a name labelled bag (swimwear, swim nappies (if needed), towel).  It is useful if children are in easy to change clothing on these days (t shirts, polo shirts, joggers)

We have gym one day a week (day to be confirmed).  Children should come to school wearing their gym clothes (joggers, trackies, t shirts, shorts) on gym days.

We will have outdoor learning every day in our enclosed outdoor sensory area.

We are looking forward to starting in August with our new Red Class.
