This term, we shall again be joining forces with Brake, the road safety charity to promote the benefits of walking to school and help teach road safety. This annual event takes place on Wednesday 13th June at 1.30pm and we shall again be joining forces with pupils from Neilston Primary School. We are delighted to add to that number by having as many of our families as possible included in this important event.
Our Brake Walk will involve our pupils taking part in a short walk from the school gates, out into the local community and up to Kingston Playing Fields to call for safer roads around our school and to promote safe walking and cycling. With the help of colourful banners, we will use this walk to call on drivers to slow down and we will spread our road safety message further by handing out leaflets made by the pupils themselves.
The project also raises funds for Brake’s vital work to improve road safety and care for families devastated by a death or injury on roads. On the day of our walk, pupils will be asked to bring a small donation (e.g £1) and wear their own bright / stripy clothes to help attract the attention of drivers.
The Brake Walk empowers children and schools to make their communities safer, healthier, and greener, while preventing devastating child casualties. We are keen to have as many members of our school community walking with us on the day. Buggies and prams are most welcome on our walk, so feel free to bring along any younger siblings.
