Eastwood Crime Prevention Panel Inter School Quiz

Congratulations to The Mearns Castle quiz team who won the Eastwood Crime Prevention Panel Inter School Quiz on Wed 23rd May.

They were up against a team from all of the other schools in the authority.

The pupils involved were: Jamie Taggart, Ross Wallace, David Currie and Elijah Pina.

The boys were tremendous and thoroughly deserved the achievement!

Rapid Response

All S1 pupils will be involved in the Rapid Response event on Tuesday 29th May. This event will be in the form of a challenge day, in school, from periods 3-7 inclusive.

Two weeks ago pupils attended a motivational presentation made by an engineer from CITB who set the scene.  Tomorrow they have the opportunity to play the role of Rapid Response engineers.

Free Your Feet

During week beginning 21 May 2012 ‘Free Your Feet’ a week long whole school event which encourages all pupils to make walking part of his/her mode of transport to and from school will take place.

All pupils are encouraged to take part and can do so by:

  • walking the whole way to and from school
  • walking to and from the bus stop
  • walking from the drop off point in the car park at Broom shops.

If every pupil participates in some way we hope that together we will:

  • raise awareness of the health benefits of regular exercise as part of every day life
  • reduce traffic congestion and increase pupil safety
  • make a contribution to improving the environment by reducing pollution

Calling all poptastic pop pickers from S1, S2 or S3!

If you are interested in radio, journalism, media or even music there is a fantastic opportunity to be a DJ. We need a group of 5 pupils to produce and present a show on the 12th June between 3pm and 4pm for Go Live @ Pulse FM. Your group will have a 45 minute slot to fill with discussion and music of your choice.

If you are interested and would like to know more please come and see Mr McGlynn in the English Department (either in the base or B10).

“What about us?”

Rehearsals are going well for his years show; a Mearns Castle first with it being written for the pupils. As always the cast and crew are working hard every Monday night to put on a special performance. All year groups are represented S1-S6 and this year more staff members are sharing their talents!

It is a modern day story of life in education, growing up, falling in love and conquering evil – all with some well know and loved songs. The songs of Queen, Bob Dylan, Kings of Leon, Lily Allen, Madonna, Michael Buble, Take That, Elton John, Bruno Marrs and Jessie J all help tell the story.

“What about us?” will be performed on Wednesday 13th and Thursday14th June in the main theatre. Tickets will be on sale at the school office from the 14th May.
