S6 pupil Zahra Ahmad created a presentation on ‘How to Study’ for her house. We thought it would be useful for S3 pupils in their preparation for the upcoming exams and S4-S6 pupils for their SQA exams.

Event for Parents of Children with Additional Support Needs
On the morning of Saturday, 26 May 2012 in Isobel Mair School there will be an event for Parents of Children with Additional Support Needs.
Parents will be able to chose two workshops from a choice of four and there will be representation forom a number of agencies involved in the support of parents and children.
More information will be available after the spring break.
Congratulations
Congratulations to Gabriel Ross, Sheetal Ravury and Matthew Barclay for their efforts towards making a superb presentation at the ‘Learning About Scotland’ launch event in the Royal Concert Hall last Wednesday.
Mearns Castle was the only Secondary school in Scotland to be invited to speak at the event about our learning experiences in a Scottish Context.
Our presentation showcased the S1 S FACTOR and Art & Design Shirt-creating Project.
Honourable mentions were also made of our S1-6 Music progression route, S3 Business Enterprise ‘Made in Scotland’ topic and work carried out by the English department in relation to Scots dialect and poetry.

Guidelines for Coursework
A major aspect of some courses is work which is called coursework. This is work done by pupils throughout their studies and contributes to the final grade.
SQA have produced a guide for submitting coursework. It contains advice and instructions about what is and is not allowed for submission of the coursework. Click here to read the advice.

Athletics
Congratulations to the following athletes who took part in the Scottish Schools Cross Country Championships on Saturday:
S2 Holly Still
S2 Rebecca Gray
S3 Rebecca Saxby
S2 Ross Gray
S6 David Clarke
All athletes ran superbly well but special mention must go to Holly Still and Rebecca Saxby who came 5th and 8th respectively in the Girls’ Group C race. This also means that the girls have been selected to run for Scotland in the forthcoming Home International at Strathallan at the end of March. This is an outstanding achievement! Well Done!
