Well done to all pupils (and staff!) who took part in the first ever Bleep Test Challenge at Mearns Castle. We had 36 runners in week 1. I look forward to seeing more of you next week to beat your scores or get started!
Tests from now on will run in both halls and will be finished by 12:50pm to give you time to get changed and have lunch. The scores are up on the leaderboard so have a look when you are in the department next.
Congratulations to Lewis Bond and Mr Walker who have the best score so far – 13.3
See you next Wednesday!
Congratulations to members of the Junior Chess Team for winning the Glasgow Schools Chess Association Junior League. This is a terrific achievement since it is the first time that the players have entered the league or indeed played together. During the season, the players have successfully competed against various secondary schools in the Glasgow area, producing decisive victories as well as nail-biting finishes against the clock. The Junior League shield and medals will be presented to our players soon.
The Intermediate Chess Team has also been competing in their respective league, the Glasgow Schools Chess Association Intermediate League. There are a number of matches remaining in this league with the last round of matches scheduled for the end of May. Our players have produced some excellent match play, recently defeating Smithycroft School, and should be commended on the fact that they are often competing against players who are several years older, with this league open to pupils up to S4.
Well done to all our players:
S1 – Aidan Causer, Fraser Clarke, Guy Cowan, Colin Howie, Rory McFadzean and Fraser Scott
S2 – James Howard, Greig McKay and Lawrence Ng
Both teams show great promise for the future and look set to build on their success next year.
The club meets every Thursday at lunchtime. New members are always welcome.
