Community Unity Peace March

Community Unity Peace March

Today we  celebrated The World Day of Social Justice b y joining together with our Community Unity Partners for a Peace March.

Pupils from St Cadoc’s and Crookfur primaries gathered at IMS to march in support of Human Rights. Pupils carried banners to celebrate figures from the civil rights movement including Malala Yousafzai, Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King.  We marched up and down the corridors and playground and pupils from the classes in the school joined us as we passed.  We sang This Little Light of Mine and also had a protest chant –“What do we want?  Human rights. When do we want them? Now!”

The peace march is part of our ongoing work on raising awareness of human rights, particularly the rights of children as we aim for Rights Respecting Schools Status.  Everyone involved was caught up in the great atmosphere and enjoyed the march experience and pupils from all three schools and the ISS@IMS group gave presentations about some of the figures involved in the rights movement in the Mod after the march.

Listen as Dylan recites a poem all about Nelson Mandela.

Community Unity Kilt Walk & Ceilidh

Congratulations to all out tartan clad pupils, who took part in the “Community Unity Kilt Walk” this morning.

The morning started off with IMS welcoming Crookfur Primary pupils and then they were entertained by Reels on Wheels who performed 2 dances for everyone. We then had the official passing of the baton before heading into Teenscene for some shortbread and juice.

Afterwards our enthusiastic and excited pupils walked to Crookfur Primary carrying the Community Unity banner and baton. They were then entertained by the pupils from Crookfur school. The day finished off with a fantastic ceilidh at Eastwood High school. A great event, promoting community unity and working partnerships.

Thank you to everyone involved in this fantastic event and we look forward to what will be our “Annual Kilt Walk”.

Community Unity………. “Harmony”

Harmony by Community Unity

What an amazing performance from the pupils involved in the drama performance of “Harmony”

This drama performance incorporated pupils from St Cadoc’s, Crookfur and Isobel Mair school who come together on a regular basis as part of their Community Unity Partnership.

Last nights performance was produced and directed by Pace Theatre school who worked with the three schools and then they all came together for 2 full day rehearsals culminating in last nights amazing performance.

Please read below the comments sent in today from one of our parents Mr Tunde Cockshott………

“Tonight was fantastic. It was a great pleasure in so many ways. The show, the way the children performed, the concept and the Inclusion. Of course Ruby was the star, but everyone played their part.
It’s so inspiring to see the school, the community working together on projects like this. It demonstrated true, deep inclusion, able bodied, special needs, religion.
As I walked Ruby out of the hall where the children had gathered, she was like a presedential candidate, glad handling everyone, every child and adult she passed. Greeting them all and smiling, and they were smiling back. They all seemed to know her by name. This is true inclusion and a benefit to all those involved.

A great evening.
Please send my thanks to everyone involved”.

Harmony Drama Performance

Please note: could parents of pupils involved please ensure that black trousers are worn for this evenings performance.

Winter Wonderland Thank You

Thank You to everyone involved and who came to support our Christmas Winter Wonderland Christmas Fair last Wednesday evening.

The event was a huge success and we were delighted to have pupils from St Cadoc’s and Crookfur Primary schools who came along and supported us with the joint carol singing as part of Community Unity.

The Christmas Light Switch on took place whilst the choir sang some Christmas carols and our special visitor “Santa” was delighted to have the honour of pressing the switch.

We had Christmas stalls, face painting, raffles, games, nail zone and much more, celebrating the enterprise activities of all the pupils.

A fantastic community event supporting life in the Isobel Mair School and Family Centre, bringing everyone together on a fun evening and at the same time raising a fantastic amount for school funds.

Community Unity

Thank to the staff and pupils from St Cadoc’s Primary School who entertained our pupils and the children from the Family Centre with an afternoon of Scottish music and dance.

Everyone impressed with the group and individual performances of the pupils and our own Reels on Wheels performed also.

Thank You everyone for a great afternoon.

Community Unity Celidh

Last Wednesday saw Loch Ness Corridor join in with our local primary schools as part of the Community Unity initiative at the Annual Eastwood High School Ceilidh. Previously known as ‘Twinning’, Community Unity is the extension of the anti-sectarian message developed in both St. Cadoc’s and Crookfur Primary Schools.

A busy programme of events is scheduled throughout the school year and Isobel Mair School has now been invited to take part, taking our place as active participants within our new school community.

The Ceilidh was a great success and was well attended by Primary 7 pupils from Crookfur and St. Cadoc’s and a mix of pupils from our Primary Department.

Pupils were entertained by our Scottish Country Dancing Team, “Reels on Wheels” and an ambulant dance was also performed to a great reception. Well done to all our pupils!

This Thursday we will welcome pupils from St Cadoc’s who will be performing for our pupils in our MOD. More details to follow.
