Community Unity Peace March
Today we celebrated The World Day of Social Justice b y joining together with our Community Unity Partners for a Peace March.
Pupils from St Cadoc’s and Crookfur primaries gathered at IMS to march in support of Human Rights. Pupils carried banners to celebrate figures from the civil rights movement including Malala Yousafzai, Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King. We marched up and down the corridors and playground and pupils from the classes in the school joined us as we passed. We sang This Little Light of Mine and also had a protest chant –“What do we want? Human rights. When do we want them? Now!”
The peace march is part of our ongoing work on raising awareness of human rights, particularly the rights of children as we aim for Rights Respecting Schools Status. Everyone involved was caught up in the great atmosphere and enjoyed the march experience and pupils from all three schools and the ISS@IMS group gave presentations about some of the figures involved in the rights movement in the Mod after the march.
