It is National Numeracy day and Digidabble week in school so we thought we would have a slightly different streaming lesson. We used iPads and went on a hunt around the sensory garden to find a range of 2D and 3D shapes.

Focused Areas of Learning – Eco/Sustainable Development – Reduced Inequalities – The Goats of Anarchy Comic Book

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS *

The Moonbeams class read an e-book called “The Goats of Anarchy”. It was all about a farmer called Leanne who had a range of animals with disabilities. Angel a little goat had poorly back legs so a pig helped her create a cart so that she could still play on the farm.

The pupils enjoyed this story and it opened up lots of discussions about how we are all different and unique but that the world would be a boring place if we were all the same.

Digidabble Week

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, EFFECTIVE CONTRIBUTORS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS *

It is Digidabble Week in school and the Moonbeams class completed an East Ayrshire travel survey displaying how they got to school. We completed our information and used these results to read a pictogram. We used the computer to word process our information and used a phone to gather information about the distance from our house to the school.

We also used the Promethean board to help us look closely at the map of Italy. We found certain places and placed them on our own mini map and matched some landmarks.

Superhero Stories!

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, CONFIDENT INDIVIDUALS *

The Moonbeams class were very successful learners today when doing our imaginative writing. We used dice to randomly choose who, what and where we were writing about. We then used this information to create superhero stories.

A Visit from Harris McCoo!

* CONFIDENT INDIVIDUALS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS *

The Moonbeams class loved today’s visit from Shirley Husband, the Harris McCoo story book author. She read us her brand new story about Betty McCoo and we also recapped on her original Harris McCoo story.

Of course, we were delighted that she also brought her famous friend Harris McCoo along with her and we had a bit of a dance to his famous song!

Numicon Fun!

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, EFFECTIVE CONTRIBUTORS *

Miss Gemmell’s Maths streaming group completed more problem solving jobs using numicon. We had races to complete the hundred square boards before the timer ran out and also became familiar with the numicon pegs.

We played a “can you find…?” game using the number spinners and loved our final game which was a game of hide and seek using the numicon sack bag. We were delighted when we managed to put our hands in (with no peeking!) and find the correct numicon shape.

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS *

The Moonbeams class enjoyed today’s playdoh challenge. We used different shapes of Italian pasta and tried to make some hedgehogs.

We all managed to complete the challenge and made a hedgehog with lots of spikes!
