St. Andrew’s Day Assembly

The Beech class enjoyed assembly this morning.  We made thistles from our handprints, made shapes with porridge play dough, enjoyed some Scottish music and played themed games as well as tasted some typical Scottish foods.   All pupils were confident individuals as they participated  in each  activity.

Recycled Art

The Eco group recycled an item that would usually be thrown in the bin.  The pencil shavings from sharpened pencils were gathered and then used to create a picture of a tree and a butterfly.

It was a very relaxing and fun activity to create something beautiful from rubbish that would have been thrown away. The boys were effective contributors using items to recycle and creating something new.

There will be a lot more exciting recycling projects happening over the next few weeks, with a Christmas theme.

Bonfire “Art Attack!”

We had great fun this morning making our own firework display!  We used paint, glue and glitter to make different shapes after hearing a sensory story about all about bonfire night.   We took turns to make marks and choose the patterns and colours.  We were very effective contributors.

Personal Care and Independence

The Beech class are learning how to look after ourselves during different personal care routines.  We experienced the different smells and textures of some products and then thought about which part of the body we would use them on and when.  We were all effective contributors as we took turns to go through out toiletry bags and place the products in the right place.

Bonfire Cupcakes!

The Beech class really enjoyed being responsible citizens this week as we made themed cupcakes during home economics.  We thought hard about where to find all the different bits of equipment or ingredients we needed and worked as a team to follow the recipe.  We also thought hard about our own health and safety as we identified any potential hazards around the kitchen.

Independent Life Skills

There are some very responsible citizens in the Beech class these days. We are starting to practise lots of different life skills around the class that will help us do chores at home or when we transition from school.

The class worked very hard and made the classroom all clean and tidy. Dave had to stop half way through for a short break though!

Pet Therapy

The Beech class were lucky enough to take part in a pet therapy session last week. Lyle loved the sensation of Bella licking his hands and helping to throw her ball. The girls enjoyed taking care of Bella and Zeus by getting them water and Dave got some exercise by throwing and catching the ball.
